Hongkong Bank : The Building of Norman Foster's Masterpiece
Published in Hardcover by Little Brown & Company (July, 1989)
Author: Stephanie Williams
Average review score:

The HongKong Shanghia Bank
This fantastic book is almost impossible to put down. It follows the tale of the Bank from initial studies, through the invited international competition, design development, bidding, and construction. The challenges of building the "most expensive building ever built" in the middle of South-East Asia involved manufacturing and engineering feats usually reserved for aerospace of military efforts. The book really describes how the design concept responded to the realities of the program and the construction procedures and how Foster's office and others staged the monumental task of getting the building completed. Everyone involved claimed that it was the project they had been training for their entire career.

Great saga about the construction of an incredible building
Possibly the greatest work of art by the famous British Architect Sir Norman Foster, this review takes you step by step through the entire process of design, planning, and construction. At it's time the most expensive building on earth, Williams' book is a tour-de-force and should be a must read for every budding young architect. Seek it out and buy one now if you can (I bought 5 copies to give to my friends)

Hope Is Contagious: The Breast Cancer Treatment Survival Handbook
Published in Paperback by Fireside (October, 1997)
Authors: Margit Esser Porter, Margit Esser Porter, and Norman Sadowsky
Average review score:

Excellent book for those newly diagnosed
This small book can fit in your pocket and give helpful advice at any time. The advice from survivors of breast cancer is organized by topic. Each piece of advice gives the name of the survivor (usually just the first name), her age at the date the book was published, and the date of her diagnosis. Just seeing women who had been diagnosed 30 years ago was heartening.

The advice itself is very practical and useful, and goes over the items that woment had undergone. A worthwhile book. After I read it, I passed it along to a friend who was also undergoing chemo - we both found it immensely cheering.

Breast cancer survivors share thoughts, tips.
This handbook almost does fit your hand. Easy to slip in a purse, its unpretentious, unsentimental, and yet quite comforting. Breast cancer survivor, Margit Porter has put together a collection of tips and reassurances from others who have been down her road. They range in age from 29 to 86, but are weighted on the young side (Porter herself was 35 when diagnosed). Many of their quotes are succinct lessons in how to tell it like it is without being discouraging. E.g.

"I was on CMF. It made everything taste metallic, so I ate with plastic utensils."

"Chemotherapy is not a picnic...but it is survivable. I had inflammatory breast cancer, underwent an autologous bone marrow transplant, and I'm still here. Remember what your goal is."

"There is no sensation in my reconstructed breast, so sexually I feel nothing when it is touched. I do, however, feel sexier having both of my breasts."

There a list of resources in the back and good illustrations of scarf and turban tying.

Will appeal to: Any woman facing breast cancer treatment. Younger women may resonate especially to the many age-peers represented in the book.

The Idea Generator: Quick and Easy Kaizen
Published in Paperback by PCS Press (05 August, 2001)
Authors: Bunji Tozawa and Norman Bodek
Average review score:

Fundamentals for improvements in operating effectiveness
For quite a long time, I try to figure out a strategy that can support the three generic ones such as low cost, differentiation and focus scope and go beyond for a corporate. Bunji Tozawa and Norman Bodek's The Idea Generator: Quick and Easy Kaizen offers a fundamental solution for my question. It did convince me why small, continuous, and alternative-seeking changes can benefit companies as well as individuals in them. Further, by volumes of examples and how-to information, I found their way matching the core idea in complex adaptive system theory: Creating an impact sensitive and interaction friendly environment in an organization can trigger more effectiveness than simply summing up the individual efforts respectively. They prove that by accumulating quick and easy improvements, the power and profit Kaizen activities result in will go beyond our imagination. I love this book and highly recommend it to the management level and frontline people in an organization together work for their viable future.

A Guidebook for Improving Organization Performance
In any organization, all of us are smarter than any of us. Here is a book about all of us. Wisdom resides not only in senior-level people, but widely throughout the organization. How can organizations draw on the huge amount of knowledge, experience, and wisdom of everyone in the organization and apply this capability to continuously improve organization performance? The Idea Generator; Quick and East Kaizen, by Bunji Tozawa and Norman Bodek describes how, with examples from American companies that use these methods. The book draws on experience in Japan and in the United States to show how everyone in the organization can be involved in improving the way work is done, and achieving organization success. While the concepts and methods presented in this book are not yet in widespread use, they're growing. The book cites company experience showing how they create competitive advantage, and a motivated, high-morale organization. I highly recommend this book for everyone concerned with participation, motivation, and world-class operations.

The Power of Positive Thinking
It was the most inspirational book I have ever read. Norman has such a way with drawing the reader in the most honest and loveable way I just couldn't put the book down. I also recommended the book to many of my friends who needed to change the way thier life was going, especially the way they were thinking. I want most desperately to get my husband to read the book so he can experience what I did whilst reading his work. The techniques he uses are fantastic, but my husband doesn't read English,he can only read Greek. Please help me in finding a Greek copy. Then we can use our mind powers together and he'd understand what I've been trying to explain to him all along.

A great book to use a part of goalsetting, and meditation.
This is a great audio tape, I use it as a part of my goalsetting, and meditation. It is a great tool for relaxing, and riding yourself of the stresses in today's life. No wonder, it has been reprinted so many times.

Income Surfing

Why Income Surfing?
Both Ken Norman and myself (Bob Brewster) were inspired to write this book to help the above average individual break free from old thinking so that he or she can enjoy both an above average income and an above average lifestyle. The 21st century will command a multiple source income philosophy...no demand it...if a person truly wants to be successful for the long term. Income Surfing is a philosophy...a way to live life...a way to get the most from the talents we all have but which most people fail to use to their fullest. Read Income Surfing. Like thousands of previous readers who have contacted us with very positive comments, you will not be disappointed!

This book shared with me the experiences I've had and why.
It echos my own life's theme: "How and why go into the 21st century creating multiple income streams as a way to become prosperous and retain our freedom?". Could this be, as the book suggests, an upcoming worldwide trend?

Inerrancy
Published in Paperback by Zondervan (07 May, 1980)
Author: Norman L. Geisler
Average review score:

Impeccable
This book is a scholar's standard for a logical support of the doctrine of inerrancy. This doctrine is central to the Christian faith in supporting the reliability and authority of the Sacred Scriptures. This book is a MUST read for any who are wondering about the nature of Scripture, or have questions about the qualifications of inerrancy and inspiration.

A Much Needed and Well Researched Work
This book, edited by Norman L. Geisler, is a compilation of Christian scholars who have gone to bat over the issue of the inerrancy of the Scriptures. With the traditional orthodox view waning, a book of this kind is much needed.

Some of the chapters and scholars included in this work are:

Christ's View of the Scriptures - John W. Wenham

Alleged Errors and Discrepancies in the Original Manuscripts of the Bible - Gleason L. Archer

Legitimate Hermeneutics - Walter C. Kaiser, Jr.

The Adequacy of Human Language - James I. Packer

The Meaning of Inerrancy - Paul D. Feinberg

Philosophical Presuppositions of Biblical Errancy - Norman L. Geisler

The Internal Testimony of the Holy Spirit - R. C. Sproul

The View of the Bible Held by the Church: Calvin and the Westminster Divines - John H. Gerstner

(and more).

The book is sponsored by the International Council on Biblical Inerrancy and contains some of the greatest articles by modern Biblical scholars in print. This book is a must for anyone who is interested in learning more about why the Bible is inerrant and how to defend such a position. Moreover, it is a necessary edition to any apologist's library.

The doctrine of inerrancy is, as the back cover totes, "an essential element of the authority of Scripture and a necessary ingredient for the health of the church of Christ." And this book is a definitive text on the issue of inerrancy and works as a great reference tool in developing a strong defense for Biblical inerrancy. I highly recommend it!

The Inner Principal (Student Outcomes and the Reform of Education, 3)
Published in Paperback by RoutledgeFalmer (July, 1997)
Author: David Norman Loader
Average review score:

The long and winding road of learning.
For anyone who has quit a job to move on, but had mixed feeling when doing so, you'll find emotions in this book that you can relate to. David Loader writes "some sense of the emotional loss that I was about to experience swept over me," realizing how many of his friends were not going to be a part of his daily life anymore.

Then there's the "Stumble Principal." Stumbling kind of reminds me of brainstorming. You start with one topic that triggers other thoughts and pretty soon you're at a completely different spot -- but maybe that's a better place to be. If we don't experiment, and aren't open to trying new things, life would be pretty dull! David Loader states "stumbling has one other dimension, falling on your face! Sometimes this may be appropriate." This is how we learn.

You'll find that David Loader brings such reality to his writing - so many things that trigger learning experiences in your own life. He has great insite into the educational ! process, and seems to be a leader who doesn't present an illusional image.

This is a book, once read, that you will keep on your shelf and grab often.

A vulnerable journey revealing new images for schooling
David Loader invites us on a journey of new ways of thinking about education. He exchanges the four walls for more refreshing images such as circus, Cinderella, and Frog Prince'pals. As a teacher who loves his art, I could never imagine giving it up for an administrative role - until reading this book. I could actually consider an administrator as maybe having something valuable to offer to the educational enterprise. Loader's insights regarding technology provide thought-provoking possibilities for more creative and effective education located within home, business, and community contexts.

A milestone in this field
It is a very well written text.It also includes chapters in advanced mechanics of materials field. I strongly recommend this book to ones who are interested in this field more than elemantary level.

Beautiful explanations for a second time reading...
I am surprised to see no reviews for this great book. This is one of those books which will be totally over your head the first time around. But if you don't lose heart and keep at it, you will realise it is a treasure trove. The style is extremely concise. What is said in 20 pages in other books gets about 5 pages, but beautifully. Read a sentence, contemplate over it and you will get it. Some of the example problems and explanations are so practical and simple, you will wonder why you should ever read another book. But you will need another book before this book starts to make any sense.
